Morrison too much for Centertown

The high-flying Morrison Eagles continued to fly high over the Centertown Warriors during the second round of the Masonic Christmas Tournament held at Warren County High School on Monday night.
These two teams are certainly familiar foes. Coming up with the right recipe to defeat the Eagles is getting harder to do. The Warriors could not hold all of the Eagles down and Morrison defeated Centertown, 45-29.
Kasen Holder led all scorers with a game-high 22 points. Holder was relentless in his attack on the Warrior defense time and time again.
The Morrison offense gets energy from its defense. The Eagle defense covered the floor with great speed and anticipation. T.J. Howard opened up from past the 3-point line in the first quarter for his only points of the game. Will Rivers also got free for a rare inside basket against the tough Morrison defense.
Kasen Holder and his brother Rylan combined 10 of the Eagles’ 12 first-quarter points. Kasen Holder got out ahead of the Warrior defense and scored several points in transition. Irving Espinoza drew much of the attention on offense and it allowed the Holder brothers open looks.
At the end of the first quarter, Morrison led 12-5.
Westin Wilson picked it up on the offense in the second quarter. He scored four points outside and knocked down a pair of free throws after he was fouled underneath. Rivers also went to the free-throw line and connected on both attempts.
As for Morrison, the offense slowed its pace down slightly from the first-quarter tempo. It was still the Holder brothers who supplied the Eagles with offense while Espinoza remained a decoy. By the end of the first half, Morrison extended its lead, 22-13.
In the third quarter, Centertown scored nine points on 3-pointer by Westin Wilson, Wyatt Wilson, and Brad Burke.
In the third it was more Holder offense. Kasen Holder added 10 of his 22 during the third. Espinoza fired from well beyond the 3-point line and hit for his only 3-pointer and after three Morrison led 35-22.
In the final stretch, both teams emptied their benches and Zach Adams knocked down a 3-pointer in the final period. Dominic Hodges got free and took advantage of a rare open look for two points.
As Morrison continued the final quarter the Eagle offense got the ball to Elijah Fults and he connected on the open jumper and a pair of free throws.
The Warrior defense could not keep the Eagles from taking off and Morrison defeated Centertown, 45-29.
