In a doubleheader night to crown the boys season champion, the Morrison Eagles came out on top soaring over the Dibrell Wildcats in both matchups on Thursday.

Both Dibrell and Morrison entered the doubleheader undefeated. The rare doubleheader was held due to a number of postponements because of weather or illness.

In Dibrell’s gym, Morrison was able to squeak out two wins securing the Eagles as the No. 1 seed in the county postseason tournament, which began Saturday.

The Eagles beat the Wildcats 41-33 in the first game with Isaiah Robledo leading Morrison with 14 points and Braxton Gibbs adding 10.

Chance Whitlock and Kobe Brand kept Dibrell in the game with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Dibrell was eager to defend its home gym in the second game and kept it close in the first quarter, but Morrison would prevail, 34-20.

Lee-Allen Esparza put up points for the Wildcats early, but Kristopher Robledo was on fire for the Eagles scoring 7. By the end of the first half, Morrison was up 17-10.

It was a relatively low-scoring game due to many turnovers being made by both teams, but in the fourth quarter, Morrison sealed the victory. With a pair of Robledos putting up a 3-pointer each, Dibrell was finding it difficult to keep up. Morrison stayed undefeated in the season placing first. Dibrell placed second losing only to Morrison.

Both play on Tuesday in the tournament with Morrison playing at 5:45 p.m., and Dibrell at 8:15 p.m.
