The Men’s League at the Civic Center kicked off tournament action Tuesday night and saw an upset in the first round. The seventh seed, Morrison Industries, defeated the second seed, Pinnacle, 74-72 to advance to the semifinal round.
Morrison Industries was led by Jared Vanatta’s 24 points and Ethan Turner added 18 points in the upset victory. Adam Wood carried Pinnacle on his back, scoring 31 points.
Morrison Industries was down by 10 at the end of the first quarter and Pinnacle looked like it was going to cruise in this one, 15-5. The teams exchanged baskets in the second quarter but Morrison Industries still found itself down by nine points at the half, 34-25.
Wood led all scorers in the first half with 14 points for Pinnacle, while Turner had nine points to lead Morrison Industries.
Morrison Industries kept chipping away in the third quarter and trailed 51-45 at the end of three. Pinnacle didn’t see its shots fall in the fourth and Morrison Industries stormed back to tie the game, sending it to overtime, 63-63.
Vanatta scored nine of the 11 Morrison Industries points in overtime to help them prevail over Pinnacle, 74-72, and advance to the semifinals where they will take on Tiger Lily for a chance to advance to the championship game.
All semifinals matchups will be played May 3 at the Civic Center.
