When the Pioneer football team takes the field this season, the TSSAA has ruled face coverings will be required for fans in the stands.
For fans who want their face covering to show their Pioneer Pride, football players are currently selling neck gaiters that can be pulled over the ears and face to create a face covering. The gaiters will contain the Pioneers logo.
“I have a sponsor who bought one for every player on the team,” said Warren County coach Matt Turner. “I know there will be times when we can’t social distance, like when we’re riding a bus, so these gaiters will be a great option. I feel like if the kids are required to wear them, then we should furnish them.”
The gaiter sale is serving as a fundraiser for the team. The cost is $18. The gaiters are washable and reusable.
“The logo is printed into the material so it’s a high-quality item,” said Turner. “It’s not vinyl.”
The football team generates much of its money from fans paying for tickets at the gate. Attendance is expected to be lower this year because of coronavirus concerns and social distancing requirements handed down by the TSSAA.
Games could also be canceled if Gov. Bill Lee leaves his current executive order in place until Aug. 29.
The gaiter sale is viewed as a way to help make up the difference.
To order a Pioneer gaiter, contact any football player or send a message to the booster club on the Facebook page called Warren County Pioneer Football.
