Though baseball and softball are mostly over in Warren County, the town will be well represented throughout the Midstate on the diamond this weekend. Many tournament teams, which are comprised of players who made teams through a tryout process held during the regular seasons, will be traveling to play. Two teams won’t have to go far though, as they will continue their baseball seasons by making a small switch. The National League and American League tournament teams, comprised of players from from the 10-year-old junior league division, will be in action on Sam Martin Field at McMinnville Civic Center. It is a change of scenery for the teams, as the junior league was played at the Hoover and Millraney Field this summer. The change was a recommendation by Cal Ripken officials, who thought the 200-foot fence of Sam Martin Field provided a greater challenge to hitters than the 180-foot distance Hoover and Millraney Field provides. The change could also be permanent, as league officials will look into revising what leagues use which fields next season. The American League opened up the 10-year-old District Tournament last night with a game against Cookeville.
