Centertown’s Maegen Johnson catches the ball down low over the defense of Dibrell’s Ari Kirby during a Monday night matchup. Johnson scored 10 points and played a big role down the stretch.

It was a dogfight in Dibrell on Monday night as the Lady Wildcats and Centertown Lady Warriors were battling for their first win in 5-6 grade basketball.
It was tied 19-19 with two minutes to play when Centertown scored the final six points to capture a hard-fought 25-19 victory.
Centertown was led by post Maegan Johnson who scored all 10 of her points in the second half. Johnson got aggressive on the boards and in her determination to score and was hard to stop near the basket. Quick guard Gracie Sadler also had 10 points for Centertown.
Dibrell post Anslee Crick had a strong game of her own. She was the main offensive weapon for the Lady Wildcats with 10 points.
It was a back-and-fourth slugfest with six ties or lead changes in the second half.
Centertown was clinging to a 15-14 lead entering the fourth quarter when Dibrell’s Katie Betchel hit a foul shot to tie the game.
It was 17-17 when Centertown’s Alyssa Boyd produced one of the niftiest plays of the game off an inbounds play near halfcourt. Boyd broke toward her basket, caught a pass in stride, and outraced the defense to the goal for a driving layup.
Betchel answered for Dibrell with a rebound and putback to tie it again, 19-19.
Centertown missed two straight 1-and-1s to keep the score unchanged as Dibrell got into late foul trouble. But even with the missed free throws Centertown had too much offense down the stretch as Johnson scored four points and Sadler drained a 5-footer as Centertown scored the final six points to escape the Lady Wildcats lair with a win.
