Defending a District 6-AAA title won’t be as easy as defeating Cookeville Sept. 6 and Oct. 2 for the Warren County High School girls soccer team. If the Lady Pioneers want to grow into another championship team, the seeds will need to be planted this week as the team starts fall practice.Coach Todd Willmore put his 35 Lady Pioneers through practice this week as Warren County hopes to defend its district title this fall on the Warren County High School soccer field.With District 6-AAA player of the year Morgan McCormick back, along with a host of players who earned all-district recognition last season, the Lady Pioneers are the clear favorites to win the district when the season begins against Tullahoma.Before the season starts though, coach Willmore will need to see his team pick up the intensity from the first day of practice. The morning session went well, but things started to fall off by the afternoon session.Coach Willmore hopes to see the effort and desire continue to improve as the season nears, but the Lady Pioneers won’t have many practices before working against opponents.Coach Willmore has scheduled a scrimmage tonight, then a day of scrimmages Saturday in Coffee County.The Lady Pioneers will play host to McMinn County tonight at 7 p.m. Playing the Lady Cherokees, who are in the same region as Warren County, could be an early challenge to see exactly where the Lady Pioneers are this early in the season.Action won’t slow through the weekend as Warren County will take the field four times Saturday in Manchester.
