The Warren County High School girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer Saturday night in the district tournament semifinals in Crossville.
Facing a tough White County squad, the Lady Pioneers took a two-point lead in dramatic fashion when senior Lauren Wilkinson drained a shot with 2.1 seconds left.
Coach Erick Baird called timeout, but that proved to be a problem because he didn't have one left. The result was a technical foul and White County made the first free throw to cut the lead to one. The Warriorettes then missed the second foul shot. On the following inbounds play, since it was a technical foul, White County made a dramatic shot to steal the win from the Lady Pioneers' grasp
The victory propels White County into the district championship. Warren County will play in the consolation game Monday night.
The Lady Pioneers still have a region tournament berth, but they will have to play that game on the road. Had the Lady Pioneers won, they would have earned the right to play the region tournament game in McMinnville.
