WCHS Lady Pioneer Emily Mikkola makes the catch Tuesday as Warren County continued its tournament bid for the championship.
Having just defeated White County 7-5 on Tuesday, the WCHS Lady Pioneers started out on the right foot Wednesday by sending Cookeville out to the field 1-2-3 after the first inning. It wasn’t a foreshadow of things to come however, as the Lady Cavs jumped to a 6-0 lead after four before Warren County could score, putting the Lady Pioneers in a two-game playoff trail toward winning a district title as Cookeville hung on to win, 8-4.“We played a tough and improved White County team,” said WCHS Lady Pioneer coach Gooby Martin. “Our girls battled throughout the night and we were fortunate to get the win. Against Cookeville, we didn’t play our best game.
