Lady Pioneers beat Boyd

The Lady Pioneers saddled up Thursday night and rode their way to a 35-10 win over the Lady Broncos. It was all WCMS in a fast-paced game from beginning to end and the Lady Pioneers were a little quicker to the ball.
Katie Toney for WCMS led all scorers with a game-high 12 points.
The game was never really out of reach for Boyd until after the half. WCMS controlled the pace and forced the Lady Broncos to play catch-up. Toney found her way through the Lady Broncos defense and dropped seven of her 12 point total in the first quarter.
The Lady Pioneer defense is in constant pursuit of the ball wherever it goes. Alaina Stiles would come into the front court and pass the ball away only to get it right back. Stiles picked up a single basket and knocked down a pair of free throws for the Lady Broncos' only four points of the first quarter.
It was more of the same quick-paced tempo in the second quarter and this time Stiles got help from post player Anna Jones. Jones found the bottom of the net down low for Boyd and Stiles shot 1-of-3 from the free-throw line.
WCMS spread the ball around and four players combined for the Lady Pioneers seven-point second quarter total. Mea Starkey and Bella Cantrell combined for a pair of baskets just before the half.
The two teams went into the locker rooms with WCMS in the lead 18-7.
The Lady Pioneers appeared to be the fresher of the two teams in the second half. WCMS is deep with fresh legs and experience. Marli McBride got her second shot of the game to fall in the third quarter.
The Lady Broncos gave it all they had in the third quarter and were rewarded for their efforts. Stiles and Jones took it right at the Lady Pioneer defense and combined for all seven points for Boyd in the third period.
WCMS pushed the gas pedal to the floor and the Lady Pioneer offense went back to work in the final period. Ena Yasungar dropped in four more points to add to her total and extend the Lady Pioneer lead.
The Lady Pioneers' goal looked like it had a lid on it and not a single shot would fall for Boyd in the final quarter. WCMS went on to a 35-14 win over Boyd.
