Lady Eagles outlast Centertown

The Centertown Lady Warriors knew Tuesday’s home game in the 7-8 grade elementary league was one of their last chances to change their winless season, but the troubles for the Lady Warriors just kept coming.Playing against the Morrison Lady Eagles, whose lone win came against Centertown Dec. 17, at home was supposed to be the time when the streak snapped, but even a big night from Hope Valenta couldn’t get the job done.Without leading scorer Alli Howard, the Lady Warriors dropped to 0-8 with a 18-15 loss to the Lady Eagles.Tuesday’s game was a make-up contest from last Thursday, when schools closed and all elementary games were postponed. Waiting five more days to try to stop its seven-game slide added more motivation for the Lady Warriors, but Morrison and forward Tevan Holder came out firing.Holder scored the game’s first points on a 3-pointer, which helped Morrison take an 8-2 lead in the first quarter. Harley Boyd and Skyler Youngblood each added layups for the Lady Eagles while Brooke Murphy sank a free throw.Valenta had the lone basket early for the Lady Warriors, who continued to struggle with their shooting in the second quarter.
