Lady Bulldogs win in Morrison

The Eastside 5-6 grade girls basketball team traveled to Morrison for opening night Tuesday, and won the away game, 29-12, over the Lady Eagles.Following a slow first quarter for both teams, Lady Bulldog Sable Winfree was on fire as she scored 8 points for a game-high 12, leading the charge for a 15-4 halftime lead over the Lady Eagles.“Eastside girls have a really strong team. We played solid defense and rebounded well early on and kept the game close. We have a young team and are improving every game,” said Morrison Lady Eagle coach Kyle Cannon.Eastside put the game away in third-quarter action, scoring 12 more points and the Lady Eagles were left behind.The leading scorer for Morrison was Jenna Newby with 6 points.Other scorers for Eastside were Emeri Cummings with 9 points, Shelby Smartt with 4, and Emma Cordell and Chloe Rogers both had two points.Adding to Morrison’s total were Marcie Pope with 4 points and Jayla Garibaldi with 2 points.
