The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Broncos on Tuesday night and Eastside let the dogs out.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early 16-5 lead in the first quarter, then continued their offensive assault throughout the first half.
The Boyd defense did not find answers and the Lady Broncos were defeated, 41-21.
MaKenna Mason led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. All but two points of her 19 came in the first half.
The Lady Bulldogs, led by Mason, pushed the tempo and the Broncos struggled to keep pace. Pressure defense by the Lady Bulldogs was intense and Eastside was quick to get down the floor off Boyd turnovers.
Mason took the turnover and scored in transition. Grayson Hillis scored in the first quarter.
Rylie Crawford worked the post where she picked up her first two points. Then Mason let it fly from beyond the arch and knocked down a 3-pointer.
Boyd had a hard time against the Eastside defense. Alaina Stiles for Boyd took aim and pulled the trigger on a 3-pointer that hit its mark and Boyd was on the scoreboard.
Stiles then kept the ball and got inside close enough for an open look. She carried the load for Boyd on offense as the Lady Broncos trailed, 16-5.
Eastside didn’t let up as Crawford and Mason worked the ball inside and the two combined for 10 points in the second. Kapri Talley connected underneath for two points.
The Lady Broncos improved in the second and the offense spread the ball around the floor. Dana Jones dropped in two points in the second. Erica Cantrell lined up a shot behind the arch and she knocked down her first 3-pointer and Stiles added two just before the half. Boyd trailed 28-12 at the break.
The Lady Bulldogs pulled the pressure back in the second half and emptied their bench. Shani Palombo knocked down a 3-pointer in the third, while Katie Bost and Alanis Cripps combined for four points.
Despite the best efforts by Boyd, the Lady Broncos were not able to mount a comeback. Cantrell and Anna Jones combined for six in the third and Stiles scored three points from the free-throw line in the fourth.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Broncos, 41-21.
