Lady Bronco Kaydence Smith gets an open look inside the Covenant defense and takes aim just inside the free-throw line in a battle between Boyd and Covenant.

It was a game between Christian schools on Tuesday evening as the Boyd Christian Broncos played host to Covenant Academy. The Lady Broncos gained the upper hand and never looked back in defeating Covenant, 26-8.
Alaina Stiles of Boyd was the game’s high scorer with 14 points.
Boyd held Covenant scoreless in the first quarter and took a commanding 10-0 lead after one. Covenant could not contain the offensive surge of Stiles. She dropped in eight of her 14 in the opening period. Sydney Burger assisted in the Lady Bronco scoring.
Covenant was caught off guard by the quick hands and feet of the Boyd defense. The Lady Broncos were quick to get back and stopped any attempts by Covenant to score in transition.
Boyd slowed the tempo in the second quarter and Covenant took advantage of the slower pace. Anabel Lassiter scored all four points for Covenant in the second. If she got the ball in the second quarter she made good use of the opportunity.
It was all Stiles and Burger again in the second quarter and the duo combined for all six of Boyd’s points before the break. Boyd took a 16-4 lead into halftime.
Boyd went back to work but found points more difficult to find in the second half. Ava Jones got in close from the post and dropped in her first two points of the game.
Covenant was back to work but had not recovered from the first half. The struggles for Covenant continued through the third period. The Boyd defense smothered the Covenant offense with Covenant only scoring four points heading into the fourth.
The final quarter was even and both teams traded baskets. Anna Jones scored her only basket in the fourth quarter for Boyd along with Burger.
Lassiter again carried the offense for Covenant and she found her way in close enough for a pair of field goals.
In the end, Boyd’s offense was too much for the Covenant defense and Boyd topped Covenant, 26-8.
BOYD SCORING – Alaina Stiles 14, Sydney Burger 8, Anna Jones 2, Ava Jones 2.
