Kayaking growing rapidly
Smooth Rapids employee Alli Mingle gets a rental kayak ready to go. The water level was high Friday due to all the rain, keeping many off the river. Smooth Rapids was busy nonetheless serving some great food.
Kayaking, both as a sport and a pleasure activity, has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past seven years. Warren County has abundant resources for the prospective kayaker, whether it be a first-time participant, or an Olympic hopeful.A recent report by the Outdoor Foundation finds an uptick of almost 10 percent per year in paddle sports starting in 2010. Here in McMinnville, where the outdoors is one of our greatest assets, it might be even higher.“It’s grown by leaps and bounds since we started in 2012,” said Tracy Martin, marketing manager for Smooth Rapids Outfitters.
