It was hard to tell who won the exhibition basketball game Friday at Bobby Ray Elementary.
In a rare day game, attended by the student body, the teachers and coaches of Bobby Ray took on the American Legion Post 208 all-stars for the first time ever. The American Legion uses the gym on a donation basis twice a week to raise money for the school and wanted to have a day to celebrate and have fun.
Perhaps everybody won, although the scoreboard said 42-16 in favor of the teachers at the final buzzer. To be fair, each shot the teachers made counted as 2 points while the Legion was only awarded 1 point per shot made. Plus the teachers were in charge of the scoreboard, and apparently there were no math teachers available as they had 15 players on the hardwood at one time.
The teachers had the added benefit of many attending students who would make cameos during the ballgame, often scoring points for the home team.
Playing for the teachers were, Martin, Phyllis Boren, Angie Mullican, Kristin Grayson, Maria Lanier, Lakan York, Lee Northcutt, Casey McCarter, Chancery McColloch, Connor Creutz, Jasmine Evans, Patti Larrance, Ario Zadeh and Sadie Newby.
On the visiting American Legion squad were Colby Coppinger, Wolford, Princeton Kennerly, Kelsay Nowlin, Morgan DeWeese, Jonathan Jones, Jalane Grayson and Angie Perkins.
It's all about fun
