Asher Laxson swings for the fences during boys 6-8 tournament action against Morrison Industries on Tuesday night. Laxson and Edward Jones won in a nail-biter, 14-13, in their final bat.
The boys 6-8 baseball league started its tournament Tuesday night with a thrilling game between Edward Jones and Morrison Industries. The game went back-and-forth in its entirety and ultimately saw Edward Jones come away with a walk-off victory courtesy of Jonas Bailey’s RBI double to the outfield.Bailey wasn’t the only one who had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-3, for Edward Jones. Braylen Hankins, Jordan Price, Camron Holder, Asher Laxson and Ethan Holder all had two hits, while, Hayden Fults, Barrett McGinnis and Owen Frye added a hit apiece.In the loss, Ryder Gillespie, Ryan Ramzek, who hit a home run, and Connor Hopkins had monster games, all going 3-for-3 for Morrison Industries.Morrison Industries built a three-run lead quickly in the top of the first inning thanks to Ryan Ramzek’s RBI triple, Hopkins’ RBI single, and Preston McAbee’s RBI double, 3-0.After two quick outs in the bottom of the inning, the Edward Jones bats finally started to heat up as the team scored five runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two-run home run by Price, a 2-RBI double by Laxson and a RBI triple by Ethan Holder, giving Edward Jones the lead, 5-3, after one.Morrison Industries took the lead back in the top of the second, scoring four runs off Ryan Ramzek’s three-run home run and Wesley Ramzek’s RBI single, 7-5.Edward Jones continued its hot hitting in the bottom of the inning and saw eight runs cross the plate, giving it the lead, 13-7, after two.Morrison Industries tied the game in the top of the third, leaving Edward Jones a chance to win the game in the bottom of the inning, 13-13.With one out and a runner on first base, Bailey came up clutch for Edward Jones with a laser shot between shortstop and third base, scoring Hankins from first and giving Edward Jones the win in opening-round tournament action.
