In girls 7-9 softball action at Pete Holt Field, Edward Jones was looking to remain undefeated as it took on Carbide Crossfit. Edward Jones earned the victory defeating Carbide Crossfit 15-3 behind solid hitting throughout the lineup.
Lily Rains led the way at the plate for Edward Jones, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a homerun. Halle Lowe, McKayla Cagle, Callie Roberts and Kia King added three hits apiece for Edward Jones.
Despite the loss, Abby Fann went 2-for-2 with a homerun and a double for Carbide Crossfit.
Carbide Crossfit struck first on the scoreboard in the top of the first thanks to a two-run homerun by Fann to make it a two-run game, 2-0, heading into the bottom of the inning. Briley Jones added a hit and an RBI.
Edward Jones answered with a vengeance in the bottom of the inning, scoring courtesy of 3-RBI double by Rains, 3-2. Rains later scored to make it a two-run lead for Edward Jones, 4-2, after one.
Both teams’ bats went cold in the second, with both failing to score any runs and after Carbide Crossfit went down in order in the top of the third, Edward Jones blew the game open.
McKayla Cagle started the inning with a double that was followed by an RBI triple by Lowe, 5-2. A Roberts RBI single and a Rains 2-RBI double and a Brynlee Chisam sacrifice hit, scoring Rains, helped Edward Jones add to its lead, 9-2, after three.
An RBI triple by Jones was the only scoring Carbide Crossfit managed to get in the top of the fourth, 9-3 and Edward Jones put the game away for good in the bottom of the inning.
A grand slam homerun by Roberts had Edward Jones up, 13-3. Lily Rains came up a few batters later and added a two-run shot, 15-3 and Edward Jones won the game courtesy of the run-rule, to remain undefeated on the season.
