The Eastside Lady Bulldogs bucked the Boyd Lady Broncos beating them 53-9 in the first round of the 7-8 Grade County Basketball Tournament on Saturday at WCHS.
Eastside sixth-grader Sarah Kate Winfree continued her stellar year with 20 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Broncos had a rough start with only five players showing up for the game. The Lady Bulldogs were aggressive from the start, scoring 18 points in the first quarter. Boyd was unable to find the net in the first quarter going into the second quarter down 18-0.
Eastside did not let up in the second quarter and scored 12 more points. Boyd was finally able to get some points on the board when Lady Bronco Dara Stubblefield hit a 3-pointer early in the quarter. Stubblefield sank two more 3-pointers this quarter making the score 30-9 going into halftime. She was the only player to score for Boyd.
The Lady Bulldogs started the second half just as aggressive and continued to score points. The Lady Broncos took many shots, but they all failed to go in. There were many turnovers by Boyd resulting in Eastside running down the court for easy layups.
