Eastside and Irving College fought like cats and dogs in their 7-8 grade basketball games Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs devoured the Lady Tigers in the girls game, 40-9.

Sarah-Kate Winfree scored 14 points to lead Eastside, followed by Macie Bush with 12.

Eastside gained the lead immediately in the first quarter scoring 15 points. Irving College unfortunately only scored a foul shot, but when the Lady Tigers saw the aggression in the Lady Bulldogs, they fought back.

Irving College’s Ali Young made an impressive steal and continued that energy for the rest of the game on defense.

In the second quarter, Irving College was able to slow Eastside down a bit with jumpballs and defense. However, Winfree kept the ball rolling scoring 4 of Eastside’s 6 points in the second quarter.

At halftime it was 21-4 Eastside.

The Lady Bulldogs seemed a bit shaken after the break by Irving College’s hustle, but they brought back the momentum scoring 9 points in the third quarter. Irving College had its best quarter in the third, scoring 5.

Macie Bush had a great fourth quarter, scoring 6 points for the Lady Bulldogs before fouling out.

Unfortunately for the Lady Tigers, despite their determination and fire, they couldn’t catch up to Eastside.
