It was the youngest member of the Warren County High School girls golf team who came up with the biggest round of her life to help the Lady Pioneers win the District 6-AAA championship Monday at McMinnville Country Club.Freshman Saylem Powell was the top medalist at the District 6-AAA, as her 84 was the best tournament round by any girl at the event and helped Warren County win with a team score of 174.The Lady Pioneers barely edged out Cookeville, which finished two strokes behind at 176. Sophomore Brittany Myers rounded out the Lady Pioneer team score with 90 Monday, a round far below the standards she set for herself throughout the year.With Myers having trouble on the back nine at McMinnville Country Club and senior Katelyn Davenport turning in 92 for her round, Warren County looked destined to finish behind Cookeville.The top two Lady Cavalier golfers, Logan Kass and Anna Cunningham, finished before Powell and had rounds of 85 and 91 respectively.When Powell wrapped up her up-and-down round with a par on No. 18, she had no idea she had just sunk the putt to give the Lady Pioneers a district championship.Though Powell admitted she struggled on the back nine, where she was 9-over, the freshman shot 39 on the front nine to finish with the best round among the 12 girls competing in Monday’s event.Myers had a similar round, as she shot 41 on the front nine before struggling on the back nine to finish with 90.
