Paige Sweeton pitched her Dirt Diva team to a 12-9 win over Southern Girls on Monday in the girls fast-pitch league.

The Dirt Divas and Southern Girls went toe-to-toe Monday evening with the Dirt Divas gaining the upper hand after the first inning and walking away with a 12-9 win over Southern Girls.
In the short, three-inning game, Dirt Divas started the first inning off with a walk followed by a single through the defense by Maddox Adams. Back-to-back outs were recorded and it looked like Dirt Divas’ inning was about to be closed out. Two on and two outs, Ansley Crouch and Ashlynn Hillis reached first base on balls.
Ashton Crouch and Paige Sweeton advanced the runners around the bases enough to give Dirt Divas a 5-0 lead after its first bat.
In the bottom of the first, Southern Girls started the inning off with a strikeout. A single and a walk followed just prior to Ebony Ross stepping to the plate and crushing a pitch over the defense. Ross made it around to third easily for a stand-up triple and the score was 5-2. Ross and Ky Damien were the final two Southern Girls to score and after a complete inning Dirt Divas led 5-4.
Walks and stolen bases were the story of the second trip to the plate for Dirt Divas. Six walks followed by a double through the infield landed Sweeton on second base. It was enough offense to give Dirt Divas a 10-4 lead.
The offense of Southern Girls started to slow down even though it did not stop. Cierra Johnson led off the bottom of the second with a walk. Kora Forbes singled and drove in Johnson and trailed 10-5. Forbes and Ross crossed the plate before the end of the inning and Southern Girls trailed 10-7.
Dirt Divas was wearing thin as well and in its final at-bat Adams and Mackenna Hillis quickly made the trip around the infield and the Dirt Divas ran out of steam with a 12-7 lead.
Sothern Girls needed to score all five runs allowed in its final trip to the plate. Two quick back-to-back outs gave the momentum back to Dirt Divas. Riley Stafford was not going down without a fight. Stafford and Lily Gillespie did cross the plate.
The final out came on a strikeout and Southern Girls fell short and was defeated by the Dirt Divas 12-9.
