Dibrell girls prevail

Lady Wildcat Kylie Young works around a Lady Warrior defender Monday to help her team advance with a round-one win during the Masonic Tournament at the Dalt.

The 7-8 grade Dibrell Lady Wildcats were supposed to be number three on the Masonic tournament’s dance card Monday. They ended up playing second fiddle as the Dibrell Wildcat boys forfeited their game against WCMS to send the Pioneers automatically up a seed.
Although playing second, Lady Wildcats came in first with a big win over North’s Lady Warriors, 43-25.
Dibrell moved on to play Avery Trace Tuesday afternoon for a shot at the championship game. Results were not available at press time.
The Lady Wildcats showed up ready to play, jumping to a 20-10, halftime lead and were twice as accurate from the foul line hitting 9-of-17 for 53 percent compared to the Lady Warriors who were good for 5-of-19 or 24 percent.
Rhealee Johnson provided a game-high tally of 17 points in the contest as the Lady Wildcats played well up court and took boards, making their own shot. Distribution of the basketball was another key factor in the offensive playbook as seven Lady Wildcats scored.
Kylie Young hit for 8 points and JuJu Pyburn and Sadie Simmons both hit for 6 points and Bailey Glenn, Rachell Bell and Karlee Cantrell all hit for 2 points apiece.
For the Lady Warriors, Jalie Ruehling and Kaylee Smartt tied for high scores of 7 points apiece.
