On Tuesday night, the Lady Wildcats of Dibrell feasted on the Lady Eagles of Morrison. The Lady Wildcat offense wasted little time and pushed the tempo far beyond the Lady Eagles’ grasp.
Dibrell almost outscored Morrison in the first quarter of play. The Lady Wildcats followed their first-quarter dominance with three more quarters of solid basketball. Dibrell defeated Morrison, 56-18.
Rhealee Johnson of Dibrell led all scorers with a game-high 25 points. There weren’t many places on the floor where Johnson did not score. Free throws, layups, and 3-pointers were made by Johnson throughout all four quarters.
In the first quarter, it was Lady Wildcat Kylie Young who led the run-and-gun style offense for Dibrell. She scored seven of her 16-point total in the first quarter. Johnson started the game off hot and dropped her first six points off the Eagle turnovers.
Sadie Simmons and Calyn Damon each added a basket in the first quarter route by Dibrell.
Brieley Kelsey for Morrison attacked the Wildcat defense head on and she was able to score from just outside the paint. She also shot 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Regan Whitlock slipped past the defense and scored her first two points and at the end of the first, Dibrell led 17-5.
The Lady Wildcats turned their attention to defense. No shots were made by the Lady Eagle in the second quarter. Four free throws were attempted and all came up empty just before the half.
Young added a pair of baskets to her collection and a deep 3-pointer. Johnson and Simmons combined for six before the half and Morrison trailed 30-5.
The second half was dominated by the Lady Wildcats as they tried to slow the furious pace they set in the first half. The Lady Eagles stayed on course and Gabby Monzon scored a basket for her efforts. She was also fouled as she drove hard to the basket and shot 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.
Whitlock buried both of her shots from the free-throw line after contact was made by the Lady Wildcat defense inside the paint.
Damon led the Wildcat offense after the half. She pushed the ball inside and fired from behind the 3-point line for her final five points. Johnson dropped a shot and picked up a pair of free throws before the end of the quarter. After three quarters, Dibrell led 43-11.
The Lady Wildcats continued their relentless pursuit of the win and after the final horn sounded, Dibrell defeated Morrison, 56-18.
