Warren County football fans will have to wait a few extra days to get a glimpse of the 2022 Pioneers.
Coach Matt Turner has postponed the team’s annual spring game until Monday night. The game was originally scheduled to be played Friday night, but Turner doesn’t want to possibly divide Pioneer fans with WCHS softball playing for a berth in the state tournament tonight at Stewarts Creek.
“We didn’t want to create any conflicts,” said Turner. “We hope everyone makes the trip to Stewarts Creek to support our softball team. I’d hate for people to have to choose so we decided to move our spring game to Monday night.”
The Pioneers have most of their starters on both sides of the ball returning, including playmakers like Nate Elrod, Braylon Grayson and Jaythan Pleasant.
“We lost a couple key seniors but for the most part we were playing all juniors last year,” said Turner. “They have worked hard and made a big leap between their junior and senior years.”
The spring game will be held Monday night at Nunley Stadium with a 6 p.m. start time. Turner is calling it the Suds and Rinse game.
“We’d like everyone to bring detergent or bottled water for admission at the gate,” said Turner, who indicated washing team uniforms regularly can add up.
