DeKalb County Diamonds gave the Dirt Divas all they could handle Thursday evening and then some. The Diamonds shined their way to a commanding 15-4 win over the Dirt Divas.
It was a quick trip to the plate for the Dirt Divas in the top of the first. Paige Sweeton and Maddox Adams each received a free ride to first base. The two were left stranded after two strikeouts and a ground ball for an out ended the inning.
The Diamonds wasted little time in adding runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Lead-off batter Cadee Williams was hit by a pitch and took first base followed by a single through the defense by Briahna Murphy. After the first out, Aly Griffith walked down to first base and loaded the bases.
After the Dimonds picked up their second out, three consecutive hits allowed three runs to cross the plate and the Diamonds took a 3-0 lead.
Dirt Divas went three up, three down in the top of the second.
The Diamonds went back to work and unloaded a flurry of base hits highlighted by a bomb hit by Emma Johnson for a triple and the Diamonds led 5-0. By the time the third out was made, the Diamonds extended their lead to 8-0.
Dirt Divas capitalized on the Diamonds pitching errors. Six walks were issued and Jazlynn Ward was hit by a pitch and the Dirt Divas cut the Diamond lead in half at 8-4 just prior to the final out.
The Diamonds took back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the third. Jasmine Waggoner stepped into the batter’s box and smashed a long ball. Waggoner legged out a triple and cleared the bases. Two batters later, Murphy took aim and unloaded the second triple of the inning. The Diamonds led 11-4.
Anniston Smith walked her way on to first base and wasted no time and stole second base. The next three batters went down in order. DeKalb County Diamonds added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and defeated Dirt Divas by a final score of 15-4.
