Covenant Academy had a huge night Monday for soccer with its middle school team taking home the TNCAA championship trophy and the high school team crushing Clarksville Christian on senior night.

Caleb and Terry Hines led the high school pack with a hat trick each. Caleb and Terry were constantly maneuvering the ball around their opponents making goal after goal. Other seniors also showed out with Elijah Smith, Ian Lyles and Daniel Young each scoring a goal each.

Seniors Madisen Madewell and Ethan Hillis both fought hard to keep the ball on their side of the field. The team made it easy for goalie Smit Patel as Clarksville couldn’t get near the goal.

Covenant drilled Clarksville, 9-1.

Covenant head coach Johnny Smith said that he’s been blessed this year. “It’s been an exciting year,” he said, “After missing out on last season due to COVID, we came in with a chip on our shoulder ready to play and take on anyone.”

That they did as Covenant was undefeated in the TNCAA, mirroring its basketball season. Coach Smith praised the players on their attitude and sportsmanship. “As a team, we blended together, encouraging and uplifting our teammates. Many a practice we would have several players staying extra minutes for questions and extra work time.”

Coach Smith added “This senior class set the bar high for others to continue in years to come, but I have many younger ones up and coming, ready to take on that challenge.”

He’s not exaggerating as the middle school team is also No. 1 in its division, winning the championship.
