The Covenant Academy High School Lady Lions volleyball team won the TNCAA Conference Tournament over the Lady Broncos of Boyd Christian School on Thursday night in three straight sets.

Covenant was seeded No. 1 in the conference and therefore earned the right to host the tournament. Boyd made it to the conference finals for the first time in school history.

The Lady Broncos put up a fight. Each set started with each team exchanging leads. Boyd and Covenant were tied 8-8 in the first set before Covenant slowly pulled away to win the set 25-15.

The second set was similar to the first with Boyd leading Covenant 4-3. The set was tied at 4-4, and Covenant took the lead for the remainder of the set to win 25-18.

The third set was extremely even. Covenant and Boyd exchanged leads several times until Covenant took the lead for good at 24-23. Covenant won the set, 25-23. Boyd’s rally in the third set may have fallen short, yet it was a strong finish to a successful year for the Lady Broncos.

Madisen Madewell was selected as the tournament MVP. All-tournament players were Audrey Durham from Boyd Christian and Sarah Sharpe from Covenant Academy.

Chris Madewell has coached several sports at Covenant Academy and his daughter, Madisen, a senior, is his last child he will coach at Covenant. The head coach was very complimentary of his team after the match.

Madewell said, “It was a long road, and these girls worked hard to get here, especially these seniors. It was nice to see two Warren County teams here to vie for the championship.”
