Hoopers may be home for the holidays right now, but it won't be long before Christmas break is over and sneakers are again squeaking all across Warren County.
County basketball will be back Thursday, Jan. 9 and there will still be plenty of times for teams to make their push to be the top 7-8 grade team in Warren County. After just a few weeks of games, some squads are already rising to the top, but things can quickly change when the calendar flips.
The Centertown Lady Warriors were the lone girls team to make it out of the first week unscathed, beating both Boyd and Dibrell to start 2-0. It extended a winning streak that has grown past double digits as the Lady Warriors, buoyed by league-leading scorers Rylee Young and Karsyn Mathis, went undefeated last year and won the preseason tournament earlier this month.
There is a log-jam in second place in girls basketball as Boyd, Dibrell, Morrison and Eastside have all already picked up one win each.
On the boys side, Centertown may have built early momentum with a preseason championship, but it was the Morrison Eagles and Dibrell Wildcats who currently lead the league standings.
Both groups started 2-0 and were pushed to big wins in front of their school's students in day games right before school dismissed for Christmas break.
Those teams aren't scheduled to meet for the first time until Jan. 16, but the return games on Jan. 9 feature Boyd at Dibrell, Centertown traveling to Irving college and Morrison hosting Eastside. All county school games are set to start at 6 p.m.
