Valparaiso holds off Belmont 61-57.

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Alec Peters scored 17 points, Keith Carter added 14 and Valparaiso overcame a cold shooting night on Thursday to defeat Belmont 61-57.

Belmont's Taylor Barnette hit a 3-pointer with 2:55 to play to tie the game at 55. E. Victor Nickerson tipped in his own miss to put the Crusaders back on top and after a turnover by the Bears, David Skara came up with two offensive rebounds before his putback to make it 60-55 with 1:16 left.

Austin Luke made two free throws for Belmont at the one-minute mark but two turnovers hurt the Bears, including one after an offensive rebound.

The Crusaders (7-2) shot just 35 percent, going 6 of 25 from 3-point range.

Craig Bradshaw led a balanced attack for the Bears (5-4) with 12 points. Evan Bradds had 11 points and Amanze Egekeze and Luke had 10 each. Belmont finished with 19 turnovers.
