ATLANTA (AP) — Tennessee and Georgia Tech will open their 2017 seasons by facing each other Sept. 4 in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
Their prime-time matchup was announced Monday.
The Georgia Tech-Tennessee meeting is expected to be one of the first college games to take place at the new home stadium of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, which is set to open in 2017.
Although Tennessee and Georgia Tech have faced each other 43 times, this will be their first meeting since 1987. Tennessee leads the series 24-17-2.
This marks Georgia Tech's first appearance in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, which typically pits a Southeastern Conference school against an Atlantic Coast Conference program. Tennessee has played in this game before and beat North Carolina State 35-21 in 2012 at the Georgia Dome.
