SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Roman Polak and forward Nick Spaling from the Toronto Maple Leafs for two second-round picks and forward Raffi Torres.
The deal Monday comes a week before the trade deadline.
San Jose sends 2017 and 2018 second-round picks to Toronto. Polak and Spaling are set to be unrestricted free agents. San Jose general manager Doug Wilson calls Polak and Spaling "quality, character players" to complement a team that's five points out of first place in the Pacific Division.
Torres hasn't played this season because of suspension and injury. He also has an expiring contract. The second-round picks are in keeping with the Maple Leafs' trend of stockpiling for the future.
