Brady for MVP? No, Romo is more valuable

Tony Romo should be the NFL MVP.

What?!

Tom Brady has 20 touchdown passes and only one interception. Andy Dalton and Cam Newton are quarterbacking 7-0 teams. There's Carson Palmer, Devonta Freeman and many more legitimate candidates who've actually played full seasons.

Can't deny Romo only played six quarters this season before he broke his collarbone. But the Dallas Cowboys downright stink since he was injured in Week 2.

They're 0-5 without Romo following a 13-12 loss to Seattle on Sunday.

Brandon Weeden was benched after going 0-3. Matt Cassel has been terrible in two starts.

The Cowboys were 12-4 and won the NFC East with Romo last year. They're awful without him. So, it's hard to find a player who is more valuable to his team than Romo.

OK, OK. Romo can't win an award based on the ineptitude of his backups. But even the Patriots won 10 games with Cassel when Brady went down in 2008.

Here are other overreactions from Week 8:

OVERREACTION: The AFC will dominate the NFC in the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning and the Broncos whipped Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 29-10 in a matchup of unbeaten teams. Green Bay (6-1) was considered the best team in the NFC while Denver might not even be the No. 1 team in the AFC with the Patriots and Bengals also 7-0.

REALISTIC REACTION: Manning and the Broncos were coming off a bye with something to prove. That's a tough chore for any opponent and Denver's defense has made plenty of teams look bad.

___

OVERREACTION: Todd Gurley will lead St. Louis to the playoffs. The rookie has run for more than 125 yards in four straight games and St. Louis is 4-3.

REALISTIC REACTION: The Rams are two wins behind Arizona in the division, two wins behind Atlanta in the wild-card race and one behind Minnesota (5-2). New Orleans (4-4) and Seattle (4-4) aren't far behind. It'll be a tough road to January.

___

OVERREACTION: Look out for Drew Brees and the Saints. Brees tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes in a 52-49 win over the Giants.

REALISTIC REACTION: New York had the third-worst pass defense in the NFL. Far less accomplished quarterbacks than Brees have also torched the Giants.

___

OVERREACTION: The Broncos-Patriots game on Nov. 29 will be the first ever meeting between undefeated teams with at least 10 wins.

REALISTIC REACTION: Denver has to beat Andrew Luck and the Colts on the road, Kansas City at home and Chicago on the road to get to 10-0. The Patriots have to get through old nemesis Tom Coughlin and the Giants in two weeks.

___

OVERREACTION: Brady can beat a team throwing left-handed. Brady has led the Patriots to at least 30 points in six straight games.

REALISTIC REACTION: He might be the best ever, but not left-handed.

___

OVERREACTION: The Bengals are the AFC's best team. Dalton rallied them to a 16-10 win at Pittsburgh.

REALISTIC REACTION: They beat a rusty Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers lost Le'Veon Bell. They're a legitimate contender, but their victory over Oakland in Week 1 is their only one against a team that currently has a winning record.

___

OVERREACTION: Derek Carr will lead the Raiders to the playoffs. An impressive 34-20 win over the Jets has Oakland (4-3) in contention.

REALISTIC REACTION: The Raiders have a chance for their first winning season since 2002 when they lost the Super Bowl. But don't buy playoff tickets just yet.

___

OVERREACTION: Newton and the Panthers are the best team in the NFC. The Panthers are the only unbeaten team in the conference following Monday's 29-26 overtime win over the Colts.

REALISTIC REACTION: It's a QB-driven league. Rodgers is much better than Newton.
