Centertown downs 'Dogs

Centertown made short work of the Eastside Bulldogs in the second round of the Morrison Ruritan Tournament on Friday night. The Bulldogs lost their entire lineup from last season so the Warriors decided to push the tempo against the younger Bulldog team.
The Warriors made a mad dash to the finish and defeated the Bulldogs, 59-31.
A pair of Warriors led all scorers with 14 points each. Gage Shockley and Wyatt Wilson combined for 28 of the 59-point Warrior total.
Eastside scratched and clawed its way back into the lead at 16-14 by the end of the first quarter. Charlie Moore and Cruz Reyes each dialed up from long distance and connected on separate 3-point shots and helped the Bulldogs claim the lead just as the first quarter closed.
Shockley dropped seven of his 14 in the opening quarter, while Wyatt Wilson collected five.
In the second quarter, Centertown played possessed and the defense was relentless. Eastside was held scoreless in the period as the Warriors went on the warpath. Six different Warriors combined for 24 points in the second. Brad Burke led Centertown with six and Westen Wilson added four points.
Eastside was stunned at the half after the Bulldogs held a two-point lead to start the quarter. At the half, Eastside trailed 38-16.
The Warriors claimed the lead in the second quarter and it was theirs to keep. Eastside was only able to score 14 points in the final two periods. Dylan Partain buried a pair of 3-point shots and hit from inside for eight of his 12 points.
Centertown kept the tempo in its favor and the Warriors continued through the second half. T.J. Howard, Jarod Scruggs, and Jacob Scott combined for the eight, fourth-quarter points as the Warriors survived and defeated the Bulldogs, 59-31.
Centertown played Morrison in the finals Saturday night with results not available at press time.
