Ella Kesey hits for Denning and Cantrell as they faced BT Technology on Friday in the tournament for the girls youth league ages 7-9.
BT Technology navigated the championship brackets for the 7-9 girls youth league and finalized their season with a 17-6 win over Denning and Cantrell to be crowned 2017 tournament champions.Prior to the final game, BT Tech had defeated Denning and Cantrell on Monday, as well as garnered a win against Tennessee Warehouse.Designated as visitors Friday, BT didn’t hesitate and scored 5 runs in the first as Jenna Mullins, McKenzie Hullett, Brooke Wilson, Abby Graves and Kaydence Wiser all crossed home for the 5-0 lead.Denning and Cantrell responded with 1 run by Kaidence Crouch in the bottom of the inning, but after starting what looked like a rally, BT Tech retired the side.Going into the second with a 5-1 lead was good for the morale of Tech as Mullins, Ally Grizzle and Chloe Wanamaker all crossed home for runs leaving an 8-1 deficit for Denning and Cantrell, which couldn’t get on the board in response.BT Technology kept up the pressure by scoring 5 more runs in the top of the third as again Mullins Hullett, Grizzle, Wiser and Anna Graves chalked up more red ink for Denning and Cantrell to recover from with the game now at 13-1.After holding BT Technology to no runs, Denning and Cantrell had their best inning in the bottom of the third, trying to recover. Crouch, Ruby Denning, Channing Cummins and Bella Campbell scored before the inning ended, closing the gap to 13-5.Denning and Cantrell couldn’t catch a break though as BT Tech scored 4 runs in the fifth, as Mullins – her fourth run of the contest – Grizzle, Wilson and Abby Graves added the final runs.Boey Adams added another run in the fifth for Denning and Cantrell before the game concluded.
