If it's the darkest before dawn, then the sun may be soon coming up for the Boyd Broncos. Boyd was unable to break its lengthy losing streak over the last four days, but the Broncos made major improvements in tough losses to Dickson Christian and Franklin Classical.
Boyd lost 73-55 Saturday to the Thunderbirds before dropping a 54-47 decision on the road Monday to the Knight, but it both games the Broncos had impressive halves of basketball. Putting four quarters together of splendid play in the next step.
"The driving force (recently) has been our competitive makeup - It would have been easy for this group to pack it in and quit when things didn't go our way, but credit goes to them for showing up night-in and night-out and competing," said coach Dustin Curtis. "That's all we have asked for from Day 1 - Just compete. It'll be the little things that will get us over the hump, but Rome wasn't built in a day. We just got to keep pulling the rope."
Boyd led Saturday 31-30 at halftime before falling behind in the second half, then had the opposite performance on the road against the Knights. The Broncos trailed 34-17 at halftime before rallying to make it a tight game in the final minutes.
Sophomore Jordin Mitchell had a huge game Saturday, notching a double-double with 16 points and 15 boards.
Jace Matheney was the team's offensive hub Monday, scoring a team-high 16 points. Connor Andrews and Jack Oliver had nine points each in the battle with the Knights.
