The Boyd Christian Broncos were defeated Monday by the Franklin Christian Falcons 74-41 as the Broncos were unable to stop the Falcons from going to the basket.

It wasn’t a strong offensive night for the Broncos. Christian Rogers, known to score 30 points in any given game, was the top scorer for Boyd with 12. Sam Page added 7.

Franklin Christian’s defense was a little too strong against Boyd with many steals, and the Broncos couldn’t get to the basket as often as they needed to secure a win.

Following a tumultuous girls game, both teams went in ready to fight, but by the first quarter, it seemed the Broncos may have been outmatched. Franklin had an early lead, 6-0, in the first three minutes. Bronco Jon McGee started Boyd off with a 3-pointer, but with Falcon scorers Lathon Herd and Blake Buntyn scoring at a fast pace, Boyd was down 22-5 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter proved to be less difficult as Boyd kept the Falcons from scoring as much and actually outscored them by two. Boyd’s Jordan Perry, though not a top scorer, kept control of the ball for much of the quarter and grabbed several rebounds. He assisted with many of his teammates’ points.

With 3s by Cameron Chilcutt, Jake Jones, and Sam Page, Boyd hit a stride to end the first half. It wasn’t enough to catch up to Franklin, but it was enough to keep the possibility for a comeback alive.

Franklin Christian Academy was up 34-19 at the half.

The third quarter was the nail in the coffin for the Broncos. Right out of the gate, Falcon Drew Roberson came alive with a 3 and a layup. Herd emerged with a dunk over the Broncos but received a warning from the referees after laughing when he committed a foul against Christian Rogers.

Speaking of Rogers, he scored most of Boyd’s points in the third with three foul shots and a jumper. The Broncos trailed by a score of 59-26 at the end of the third.

Boyd showed out in the final quarter with Ashton Forth, Perry, and Rogers all making 3-pointers, one after the other. Closer to the end, Jack Rhoton also put up a 3 making for an impressive quarter by the Broncos.

Unable to keep consistency throughout the game, Boyd fell to Franklin Christian with a final score of 74-41.
