The Boyd Christian Broncos won an important game against the West Academy Thunderbirds on Tuesday during a Tennessee Christian Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinal matchup. This was the first game of the tournament, and it couldn’t have gone better for the Broncos, who won a close one, 65-60, to advance.

“Mr. Offense” Christian Rogers led the Broncos with 28 points. Cameron Chilcutt continues to improve and he scored 22.

The Thunderbirds started strong taking an early lead, soaring over Boyd’s defense. Halfway through the first quarter, the Broncos stepped up their game. They ended the first quarter with a one-point lead over West.

The second quarter proved more successful as Boyd’s Sam Page grabbed most of the rebounds and created a couple of turnovers. The Broncos started scoring in bunches with Rogers putting up 19 points in the first half.

Page, along with the rebounds, was also able to score two 3-pointers in the second quarter. At one point, Boyd was leading by 10 points with Boyd’s Ashton Forth grabbing rebounds as well.

By halftime, Boyd was leading 32-25, but the third quarter would be tough for the Broncos.

West Academy was able to catch up and tie the game with Mark Harrison scoring two 3-pointers.

But Boyd didn’t buckle. Page went up for another 3, then Jake Jones stole the ball from West and passed it to Chilcutt for a layup.

In another hustle play for Boyd, Jones retrieved a loose ball and passed it to Rogers where he made a 3-pointer.

With Boyd maintaining a consistent lead in the fourth quarter, West started fouling to stop the clock. Unfortunately for the Thunderbirds, Chillcutt made almost all of his foul shots, keeping the lead with the Broncos.

Boyd won 65-60 in a tough battle against West Academy.
