Lady Broncos ride strong start to win

The Boyd Christian Lady Broncos hosted the Riverside Christian Lady Knights on Friday in Westwood and exploded to a 43-16 lead by the end of the first half. The Lady Broncos tried to ride out the final two quarters with such a large lead.
The Lady Knights had different plans and cut the Bronco lead to 12 points by the end of the third. Boyd regrouped and refocused its offense and defeated the Lady Knights, 58-50.
Rhiannon Hoover for the Lady Broncos led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Hoover buried five 3-pointers and shot 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Knights fought their way back in the third quarter with relentless pressure on the ball. Riverside made a late 7-0 run in the third quarter with just minutes to go. Hoover was finally able to slip free from the defense and end the run with her fifth 3-point shot of the game. It was the only basket by Boyd the entire third quarter, Boyd led 46-30.
Riverside finished the quarter strong and trailed 46-34. The Lady Knights were led by Kaylee Robinson with six points in the paint. Kennedy Honey got it done from way outside the paint when she showed she had the range from behind the 3-point line.
Riverside focused on defense and outscored the Lady Broncos 18-3 in the third quarter. The Lady Knights had all the momentum as the two teams went back out for the final eight minutes.
The defense was not quite as intense and the Lady Broncos adjusted accordingly. Erin Cantrell helped hold onto the lead with a very deep 3-pointer over the Riverside defenders. Morgan Deweese got inside the tenacious Lady Knight defense and dropped back-to-back shots from in close.
Jaden Vining picked up a foul inside under the basket and was sent to the free-throw line, she sank both free throws as time ticked off the clock.
The Lady Knights were not going down easy and they played the game to the very end. Emma Campbell and Leah Hampton picked up five points each late in the game. The Riverside offense outscored Boyd for the second straight quarter, 16-12. It was still not enough and the large first-half lead proved to be enough against the Lady Knights. It was Boyd over Riverside, 58-50.
The Lady Broncos came out firing in the first quarter led by Hoover with nine points off three shots that were made behind the arch. Deweese added five points and Emma Rhoton scored two.
For the Lady Knights it was Honey who showed her range in the first with her first of two 3-pointers fired from long distance. Campbell was fouled on the inside and she shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and after the first Boyd led 18-9.
In the second quarter it was even more Boyd offense and the Lady Broncos forced the tempo and exploded for 29 in the second quarter.
Three different players scored from behind the 3-point line. Morgan Young, Hoover, and Cantrell all showed their shooting skills before the half, while Mackinzie Pistole took control inside the paint and added a pair of baskets. Pistole was perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line as well.
Nothing came easy in the second quarter for the Lady Knights and the Lady Bronco defense had them surrounded. Riverside did not get a single shot to fall from the floor during the second quarter. Everything they got was earned at the charity stripe and at the end of the half Boyd led 43-16.
Riverside came out with a new plan in the second half but the Boyd lead proved to be large enough to ward off the Lady Knights. Boyd held on and defeated Riverside, 58-50.
