Krista Chisam and Anna Jones dig a tough shot at the next for the Lady Broncos in their match Thursday against Covenant Academy.

Boyd volleyball coach Amanda Key has high expectation for the Lady Broncos as they enter a new season.

In a playday Thursday night at Boyd Christian School, the Lady Broncos split two matches. They beat Highland Rim Academy, but lost to Covenant Academy.

“I think the girls are learning how to give it their all and play harder,” said coach Key.

Boyd won its match against Highland Rim in three sets, 15-25, 25-20, 15-13.

In the nightcap, the Lady Broncos lost in straight sets to Covenant.

Anna Jones showed she can be a force at the net as her teammates looked to set her up for powerful spikes. Audrey Durham also came up clutch at the net with three blocks in the first game.

“Audrey is very consistent serving and she’s a steady player for us,” said coach Key.

The coach listed setters Krista Chisam and Kendlee Ferrell as two other reliable players, along with Lia Wright, who is not afraid to hustle and dive.

“Lia lays it out on the floor for us,” said Key. “She looks good as a passer and is a strong overall player.”

The Lady Broncos have a nice blend of experienced players and new players on the roster.

Boyd is scheduled to begin its season with a home match this Tuesday against Lancaster Christian. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
