Boyd Christian’s boys basketball team has gotten its season off to a terrific start. Boyd is off to a 6-2 overall start while being 4-0 in conference play.
On Tuesday night, the Broncos traveled to Murfreesboro to play Providence Christian Academy. The Broncos jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, outrunning the Lions by a final score of 56-48.
Tyler Beaty for the Broncos unloaded both barrels against Providence and led all scoring with 20 points. The Bronco defense held the Lions to just 11 points the entire first half. Rebounding was key to Boyd getting a head start over the Lions.
After the break, defense was the name of the game for the Lions as they had turned the tables on the Broncos holding their point production low, holding Boyd to their lowest scoring quarter of the game, with a total of nine points.
The Providence Lions got a better shot selection and caught the Boyd defense napping connecting from long range on three deep 3-point shots. Boyd coach Buddy Majors made the necessary adjustments and the offense went back on the attack.
Heading into the fourth it was back to business as usual for the Broncos and they improved over their nine-point third quarter to a 16-point fourth quarter led by Edgar Morales and Tyler Judkins each scoring six in the final quarter.
The first half 31-point total put up by the Broncos was a huge mountain to overcome by the Lions and ultimately was the factor in Boyd’s win.
Coach Majors said “The Broncos played well for three quarters again. We have got to learn to close games out. I am pleased with our intensity on defense and our full-court press is very good right now.”
The Boyd Broncos will face off with Community Christian Academy in a conference game Saturday afternoon with a tip-off at 3 p.m.
