A bitter rivalry on the court has turned into a major way to raise money for McMinnville Special Games. When Warren County clashes with Coffee County, every point the Lady Pioneers and Pioneers score will lead to an outpouring of cash to the local team.
For the second straight year, the game between Warren County and Coffee County has led to businesses in both counties to pledge $1 per point scored to their respective local foundations (Coffee County's money will go to the Dream for Weave Foundation).
It began last year when some lighthearted trash talk before the game came out, with Thunder Radio's Josh Peterson saying, "Not a whole lot of good comes out of Warren County … ’cept Hwy 55 and Prater’s."
Warren County businesses rushed to show there was a lot of good locally, ultimately leading to McMinnville Special Games receiving over $22K last year. As of Thursday's press time, Warren County businesses already pushed the pledges where MSG will receive over $100 per point for Friday, but still Coffee County leads in money pledged (nearly $150 at press time).
Locals wishing to show their support of the WCHS programs and McMinnville Special Games can contact Chris Cope on Facebook to join the cause.
Fans attending Friday's game can also pay $2 to attempt a halfcourt shot during the boys game, with the money raised going to both charitable organizations.
