Big game coming in Midway boys senior league

An epic clash months in the making will finally happen Monday at Midway.

The regular-season title in the boys senior league will be decided when Jeff’s Towing takes on Bell and Son Nursery at 7 p.m. The matchup was originally slated to kick off play April 29, but had to be delayed. Now it serves as the close of the regular season and the winner will take home some hardware.

Both teams will enter the matchup at 8-1. Bell and Sons Nursery won the first matchup between the teams 32-12 June 10, but a 27-26 loss to Dreams of the Field opened the door for Jeff’s Towing.

Two of the league’s top hitters should be in action in the outing, with Matthew Vandagriff leading Jeff’s Towing and CJ Taylor headlining Bell and Sons’ stacked lineup.

Vandagriff has been a powerhouse this season, regularly launching balls over the deepest part of the park in left field. When the righty isn’t taking round trips, he’s been adept at using his speed on the base paths to extend hits into extra bases.

Taylor, a lefty, has a short porch to work with in right field, but it wouldn’t matter. Taylor has detonated on many long balls this year, sending skyscrapers into the fields behind the fence.

Following Monday’s deciding game, the tournament will start. Mudd Sluggers, Warren Mechanical, Dreams of the Field and McBride and Sons should all be in action.
