For the first time in 45 days, the WCHS Lady Pioneers lost a basketball game.

Riding a 12-game winning streak, the Warren County girls lost a battle of state powers Friday night at Charlie Dalton Gym, falling to Coffee County 54-40.

Sable Winfree was the top scorer for the Lady Pioneers with 12.

Warren County was doomed by a difficult third quarter where the team was outscored 19-4. The Lady Pioneers showed a never-say-die attitude and tried to rally at the end, but the late surge wasn't enough to overcome the one-sided third quarter.

The loss drops the Lady Pioneers to 1-1 in the district. Coffee County improves to 2-0.

In boys action, the WCHS Pioneers were missing three starters due to injury or COVID. The Pioneers didn't have the firepower to match Coffee County as the Red Raiders won 50-28.

Eli Kuykendall was the top scorer for Warren County with 9.
