Tyler Adams scored a game-high 21 points as the Centertown boys started their 7-8 grade basketball season with an exclamation point Monday night at Boyd.
Adams, Hayven Jones and Connor Williams all scored in double digits to help Centertown snatch a 52-14 win in the season opener for both teams.
Boyd gave a spunky effort and was led in scoring by Jack Rhoton with 7 points.
Centertown put to rest any doubts in the opening half.
Adams was a menace in the open court and scored 10 first-quarter points as the Warriors established a 16-5 lead.
Williams decided to get to work in the post in the second quarter and he was hard for Boyd to stop when he caught the ball down low. Centertown began to pull away with a comfortable 32-7 lead at the break.
Boyd was unable to stop Centertown’s momentum in the second half as the Warriors kept scoring like a runaway freight train. Centertown also ratcheted up its defense, holding Boyd scoreless in the third quarter, to put the game on ice.
“I think we should be competitive with everyone we play,” said Centertown coach Rex Crabtree. “There are some good teams out there and I’m anxious to see how we stack up, but I expect us to be very competitive.”
Boyd found most of its success from 3-point range as the Broncos connected three times from behind the arc for 9 of their 14 points.
