The Lady Broncos weren't going to let a special senior night be spoiled with a loss. Boyd was able to snap its long losing streak and celebrate Vivian Adams, Autumn Turner and Kendlee Ferrell in style Monday as the Lady Broncos swept Riverside 3-0.
Boyd, which hadn't won since beating Riverside on the road Aug. 19, topped the visiting Knights 25-14, 25-15 and 25-8 for its fourth win.
"We were able to sustain our level of play and finish," said coach Kristen Ferrell. "We've played really well this year, but finishing has been our only issue. We were able to put it away (Monday)."
Boyd seemed to have extra energy from the very start, amped up by the pregame ceremony to honor its three seniors. Kendlee made sure the team got off to a quick start, serving for 10 straight points as the lefty quickly set the tone against the Knights.
Turner was able to finish off the first set at the service line, hitting a hard liner Riverside knocked into the roof at JK Stanley Gymnasium before the ball fell to the floor.
Adams made her impact felt defensively, flying around on the back line all night. Kendlee was again the team's leader in assists - as she has been all season - and Turner's ability to hit winners from the service line and as an outside hitter led to an impressive win at home.
It felt like a win that was a long time coming for the trio of leaders for the Lady Broncos.
"It was absolutely huge (to win on senior night). It feels really good," said Adams, who joined the team this season. "It feels like we're coming back. If we play the rest of our games like we did tonight, I think we'll have a good chance in our tournaments coming up."
Turner, who joined the team last year and has paired up with Ferrell the last two seasons, also had nothing but positive things to say after the win.
"It means a lot to come out and bring the team together on senior night and win," said Turner.
Finishing it off with some hits set up by her senior teammate made it even sweeter.
"We came in as juniors and were kind of new together, so we bonded together. And then with the setter and outside hitter connection, we've grown together as friends and teammates," said Turner.
Coach Ferrell was all smiles will celebrating the victory with her team following the match. There was one key to victory which was easy to spot for the first-year coach.
"Our energy was great. We had it from the first point and it just sustained all night. It was great to see," said Ferrell.
Boyd will finish its regular season on the road as it has a matchup with Dickson Christian and Greater Things coming up in the next week. The Lady Broncos will also compete in the TSIAA tournament in October.
