When it came to individual accolades, the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers were able to excel in 2024. Ten athletes were able to make the state tournament last year, highlighted by Zerek Keel winning a medal in the state wrestling tournament.
Keel was one of seven WCHS wrestlers to make the state wrestling tournament last season. He was joined by PJ Truax, JR Mares, Brayden McKinley and Jakoby Odineal - all finished in the top four at the 2-AA Sectionals - as well as female wrestlers Marley Harris and Allison Sweatman.
In the spring, Luke Saldana was able to finish 10th in the state shotput while Caleb Spears qualified for state in the 400.
Freshman Emma Woodlee pushed the total to double figures by making the state field in cross country in the fall.
