B-ball basics hit a chord

I appreciate the comments about a previous column where I mentioned layups and free throws. I didn’t think there was much to it, but apparently layups and free throws are things many people deem important.
Little did I know, it would be my most talked about column to date, at least as far back as I can remember. I was pretty shocked to say the least and now my hopes are some younger athletes will take it to heart.
While I am on the subject of basketball again, the 5-6 basketball season ends tonight at Dibrell. It is more than likely going to be the final showdown between Dibrell and WCMS, if the Pioneers can get past Morrison. Dibrell has a 2-0 advantage over WCMS and the answer is yes, the Wildcats are that good.
One thing for certain is the Morrison Eagles will not stay grounded I assure you. They will give WCMS all the Pioneers can handle.
On the girl’s side, it’s anyone’s tournament to win at this point. I know who I think should win but am definitely going to keep that prediction to myself.
On the high school level, if you were at Charlie Dalton Gym earlier in the week and you stuck around for the Pioneer game, maybe you were witness to a masterful game by Isaiah Grayson. I think he stunned everyone in attendance, not only the DeKalb County side of the floor.
He played one of the best games I have personally seen thus far by an individual. He was on early in the first quarter, but didn’t really do much in the second and it seemed like any other typical Warren County game.
He finished the game with 29 points and at times it looked like he might not miss. His performance versus DeKalb County definitely drew lots of attention and people are likely going to talk about it for some time.
We discussed giving him a nickname after a performance like that. Seriously he is a good kid and we are going to see him play for at least this season and hopefully the next two.
I was impressed with the entire Pioneer team for that matter and the effort put out during the win. The days between games probably look a little longer after a game like that.
The Lady Pioneers have started the season off on the right foot too. Not many will complain about back-to-back home wins but both teams are going to take it one game at a time. I for one will encourage everyone to come out and support these programs.
