Re Porter - Spooky season

Happy October! It is officially spooky season! Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love fall. One of my favorite things to do in October is watch scary movies.

First of all, I am kind of a huge baby when it comes to some movies. There are very specific scary movies I actually like. For instance, I don’t mess with possession movies or gory slashers like “Saw.” I am not a big horror fan by any means. I like movies like “Scream,” “Halloween,” “Nightmare on Elm Street” and others similar to those. I went to the movies a few weeks ago to see a rated R movie and I forgot that the previews for rated R movies are scary. The new “Exorcist” movie trailer played and I had to just look at the floor until it was over. No thank you. I will not be seeing that one.

Another thing I love about Halloween is getting to dress up. I have always enjoyed dressing up for Halloween even when I didn’t have anywhere to go. Last year I dressed up as Casey Becker from “Scream.” I found the perfect tan sweater, a blonde bob wig and watched the scene where she gets stabbed over and over again to make sure I got the blood spatter just right. Would anybody have even noticed or cared if the blood spatter was wrong? Absolutely not, but I would know. I take my costumes seriously.

The year before, I dressed up as Peter B. Parker from “Into the Spider-verse” to go to my friend’s Halloween party she was having for her kids. I went to the party to paint the kids’ faces. For those who don’t know, Peter B. Parker is kind of the slacker Spider-Man. He wears sweatpants, two different pairs of shoes and is bruised most of the time. I used eyeshadow to give myself fake bruises and I wore two different shoes and I guess I did a pretty good job because the kids asked what happened to my face and continually pointed out I was wearing two different shoes.

I guess my most memorable Halloween moment happened in 2017. I dressed up as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, specifically Buffy from season 1 episode 12, “Prophecy Girl.” In this episode, she wears a white dress and a leather jacket to the prom. I posted a picture and tagged Sarah Michelle Gellar (a.k.a. Buffy and one of the most talented people in the world) not thinking anything of it. The next morning, I saw my likes on the post and saw her name. THE Sarah Michelle Gellar saw my post and liked it. I could have died. Later that day, she reposted a bunch of people who dressed up as her and I scrolled through the post not wanting to get my hopes up and figuring she didn’t post mine. I got to the last picture in the post and there I was. Sarah Michelle Gellar screenshot my picture and reposted me. For a brief moment in time, I was in her camera roll on her phone. I cried.

I’m not sure what I am doing this year for Halloween or what I am dressing up as. I have a whole month to figure it out.
