No-show politicians

I love politics, but I hate it when politicians who are running for office -- any office -- flood my mailbox with flyers proclaiming they will “take a stand for Tennesseans,” only to “take a knee” when it comes to showing up to face their opponents in political forums. That’s what happened last Monday night at the political forum sponsored by the Southern Standard and WCPI. The forum included candidates running for the open 43rd District Tennessee House seat. Democrat Kevin Dunlap and independent Edward Buck showed up for the event. Republican Robert Dunham was notably absent. The forum also gave candidates for the 4th District U.S. House of Representatives seat an opportunity to state their case and answer questions on issues that affect our state and nation.Incumbent Republican Dr. Scott DesJarlais was, as usual around here, a no-show.
